Overcoming the Valley of Death in AT Innovation

Evidence shows that innovations in AT often fail due to a ‘valley of death’ (VOD) which is deeper and longer due to:

  • A lack of R&D funding and investors willing to engage in developing new technology in this sector.

  • A lack of early adopters due to the complexities in the marketplace.

  • The need for clinical trials and access to user testing.

The Innovate Now accelerator programme is designed to overcome these complexities by linking ventures to:

  1. Unique local and global expertise on human-centred design, markets, clinical trials, materials, manufacturing, procurement, business support and marketing.

  2. The Innovate Now innovation Challenge Fund – each venture will have the opportunity to bid for investment at the end of the accelerator programme.

  3. Users and user-organisations through our ‘live labs’ network which enable rapid AT testing and feedback; ensuring users are at the heart of product and service development.

The Innovate Now Accelerator will support AT entrepreneurs to overcome the Valley of Death, enable products to prove their fit within the market, demonstrate the demand and ultimately attract investors in order to deliver better outcomes for AT users.

THE ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME HAS A DURATION OF SIX MONTHS AND WILL PROVIDE VENTURES WITH MENTORSHIP, SUPPORT, ACCESS TO TESTING FACILITIES AND LINKS TO INVESTORS
